REFUGEE YOUTH MENTOR

Location: Tucson
Details: Community members are matched as a mentor to a refugee between the ages of 15 to 24 years old who are within their first 5 years of resettlement. Mentors help their mentee navigate the Tucson community, explore professional and educational opportunities, and have fun together. Volunteers serve a 4 month commitment to their match.

prepare snack packs for asylum seekers

Location: Any Location/Virtual
Details: Volunteers are needed to purchase individually packaged snacks and build personalized snack packs using ziploc gallon sized bags. Snack bags can be made anywhere (your home, church etc) and dropped off at either our Phoenix or Tucson offices. Snacks could include any variety of snacks such as: beef jerky, single serving tuna or chicken packets, cheese crackers, nuts, raisins, granola bars. If you include gatorade or bottled water, please bring a case or two (instead of including water inside the snack packs). Feel free to include encouraging notes in Spanish or English inside the snack packs. prepare snack packs for asylum seekers

english as a second language tutor

Location: Depends on refugee match - Phoenix, Glendale

Details: Teach English reading and writing to newly resettled refugees. Have simple, natural conversation practice with refugees who are learning the language, helping them to feel more comfortable with basic dialogue, practice useful phrases and words, and help them memorize key vocabulary they’ll need in everyday life.

ASYLUM SHELTER VOLUNTEERS

Location: Mesa, Phoenix sites
Details: Assist asylum seekers as they arrive at partner church sites; tasks may including playing with the children, prepping meals, sorting donations, and assisting asylum seekers in coordinating travel plans.

FIRST FRIEND & WELCOME TEAMS

Location: Phoenix or Tucson
Details: For refugee individuals or families that have just resettled here, they will need support navigating their new community - have fun together as well as help them with practical tasks such as bus riding and grocery shopping, as well as English practice and navigating their career path. Community groups/churches/families are matched with refugee families and individual volunteers will be matched with an individual.

sewing or crochet teacher

Location: Phoenix
Details: Share your skills with refugee women on how to sew or crochet. Lead a few workshops or serve once a week on a re-occurring basis Thursday and Friday mornings. The classes offer the women a time to meet others, perfect a skill, and provide an income stream for those who sell their finished products on etsy.

inventory assistance for women’s empowerment

Location: Phoenix
Details: Assist in counting, tracking, and organizing products made by the refugee women in the Women’s Empowerment program so they can be ready for selling and the women can be paid as products are sold. Additional assistance is needed to take photos of the products that the women have created and post on Etsy too.

housing set up

Location: Depends on refugee’s address – Glendale/Phoenix  and Tucson
Details: Assist our housing team in moving furniture into an apartment or house for a newly arriving refugee family.  Day and time will fluctuate depending on arrival date of family but we can accommodate your schedule as needed. Typically if you can provide at least one day a week to serve, we can plan around your schedule. Morning availability is most helpful due to the cooler temperatures.  Background Clearance required. 

CHILDCARE

Location: Phoenix Office - 2502 E University Drive, Phoenix
Details: Watch the children of the parents attending our women's empowerment classes on Tuesdays from 10am-2pm. Fingerprint card required.

Location: Tucson
Details: We are starting a new program through the “Refugee School Impact Grant (RSIG)” with 6 high schools in the Tucson area to offer an after-school program (from roughly 3:30-4:30pm) to assist students with English practice and study. If you are interested, please let us know!
